The Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN) joint operating agreement (JOA) model was first adopted in 1990 and has been the subject of a series of subsequent revisions. It is the most widespread (although not always the most popular) common enterprise agreement in international conventional oil and gas projects today. This book offers a pragmatic and detailed review of clause by clause of the latest version (2012) of conventional oil AIPN JOA. Each clause is thoroughly analysed, referring to the following questions: (1) an explanation of what is in the clause; (2) a summary of the intended meaning of the clause; and (3) comments on how, in practice, the clause tends to be amended and could be improved. The book also analyzes the main annexes of the AIPN JOA, including accounting and lifting procedures.
